Pribnow Gets First IRA Win

Memorial Day Weekend has been called one of racing’s greatest weekends and with a huge slate of big races, 2021 was no different. But come Sunday night, all eyes were on 141 Speedway in Francis Creek, Wisconsin. All three IRA divisions were in the house on what turned out to be a thrilling night.

In the Lightning Sprints Nick Petska was the class of the field as he won his heat race before claiming victory in the A main. CJ Malueg and Mark Heinert rounded out the podium.

The Wisconsin wingLESS sprints feature was run primarily around the bottom of the race track, and it was Johnny Fahl who led the field. Fahl started 3rd but quickly took the lead. He ran smooth laps around the bottom but missed his mark once, when he did Rusty Egan was able to sneak by, but left the bottom open in the next corner and Johnny Fahl took the lead back. After that he held the bottom line perfect and claimed victory over Derek Crane and Rusty Egan.

It was the Bumper to Bumper winged 410 Outlaw Sprints who were the talk of the racing world Sunday night though, as the feature was a race of the year contender. Scotty Neitzel and Scotty Thiel started out on the front row, Neitzel got the lead on the start and Thiel kept close waiting for a mistake from the 2w. The pair ran inches from the wall around the high banked oval. As they entered lapped traffic and began to tiptoe there way past, Danny Schlafer showed his nose and made it a 3 car battle. The race quickly changed though as the bottom groove of the speedway started to come in and it was Robbie Pribnow making it work. Pribnow who stared in third but had fallen as far back as the tenth position was mounting a comeback on the bottom and it was paying off. With just seven laps to go Pribnow would restart second behind Neitzel. It was Neitzel's orange 2W right on the wall while Pribnow's yellow 20R ran right around the infield. Pribnow was close but could not get past the 2w, it looked as if Neitzel would claim victory, but the yellow flag would wave once again setting up a green white checkered finish. Pribnow would have one more chance to make the bottom work, as the field went back green. Neitzel kept to what had been working and pounded the cushion into one while Robbie slow rolled the inside lane. Pribnow was able to keep alongside Neitzel. As they took the white flag it was still the 2w ahead. The pair raced into turns 1 and 2 and down the backstretch, as they entered turns 3 and 4 Pribnow would have his best set of turns the entire race and the run he was able to make off the bottom of turn 4 was enough to move past the 2w and claim victory.

For the first time in his career Robbie Pribnow was able to claim Victory with the IRA sprints, on his 1 year wedding anniversary. Post race Pribnow said Neitzel had been a mentor to him throughout his career and taught him a lot about running the bottom, to which Neitzel responded he was done teaching anyone before the pair embraced. With the fans on there feet, Pribnow took a dip in the infield pond as is customary for winners at 141 Speedway.

The IRA sprints are back in actions this Thursday, for a quartet of races with the Flo Racing All Stars. Thursday will be at the Fairbury American Legion Speedway, Friday at Wilmot Raceway, Saturday at the Plymouth Dirt Track and the weekend concludes Sunday at Angell Park. If you can’t be there in person tune in live on Flo!
