Thiel Doubles Down at Sycamore

After 35 years, the Hoosier tires of the Bumper to Bumper IRA Sprint Car Series returned to the 3/8ths mile track.

Starting the night off just like he finished it at Beaver Dam Raceway, “The Big Wheel” Scotty Thiel would claim the Osborn and Son Trucking Qualifying fast time award with a time of 12.958. Sabo, Neitzel, Bunton, and Daum would round out the top 5.

With 3 heat races on tap, the racers were just starting to get a groove of the new track. Kool Trikes heat race number one had the Gibson, WI native of Danny Schlafer on top of the leaderboard. Jake Neuman would score second, then Blackhurst to round out the podium.

Heat race number two presented by Allstar Performance had Jack Routson picking up his first IRA Sprint Car Series win. Routson had to fend off Steve Meyer and Kris Spitz for that win. Those two finished the podium.

Valco Wheels and Autometer’s heat race number three had Jeremy Schultz victorious over the other Beaver Dam racer, Scotty Neitzel. Rounding out the podium was Russel Borland.

Dash action was drawn and raced with Zach Daum and Scotty Thiel setting up the front row of the 30 lap feature.

At the drop of the green, like I said before, it looked like “The Big Wheel” took off where he left off from Beaver Dam Raceway on 4/23. The 73 took off without looking back leaving the battle for second to watch. With one lap in the books, the 2W of Scotty Neitzel would bring out our first caution of the night. They would restart single file and race until Ion Stear would loop it on the backstretch bringing out the second caution of the night. We would go back to green and the battle would continue to brew for 2rd and 3rd between Schlafer and Goldesberry. Lap traffic would soon play into the equation and would group the drivers together giving only a couple car lengths between Thiel and the rest of the field. We had reached the halfway marker when the 2021 IRA Champion Jake Blackhurst would bring out a caution being off the pace and ending his night. When we relined up the group, the feature event winner with the Badger Midgets Jake Neuman was showing his nose up from the 9th starting spot. Picking off drivers slowly but surely, he had made his way to 4th and battled with Schlafer and even Goldesberry for a possible 2nd place finish. The laps would tick down until the final caution would arise with 4 laps remaining in the show. With open air in front of him, Thiel took off continuing his IRA feature event winning streak. Goldesberry would power around Neuman to finish 2nd and Neuman would round out the podium.

Thank you again to everyone who attended the show making it a HISTORIC night back at Sycamore Speedway after 35 years.

The Bumper to Bumper IRA Sprints will be back in action Friday, May 20th at Wilmot Raceway for the All Stars vs the IRA Challenge.

All results were powered by My Race Pass and live event replays can be found on FloRacing.
